Title: The neutral to ground voltage issue- The forgotten Power Quality issue.

Abstract:

Neutral to ground voltage (NTGV) is one of the power quality (PQ) issues which have been reported in IEEE Standard 1159-1995. This disturbance is associated with the excessive voltage in between the neutral and ground terminal. While the voltage at phase component is always being given more attention for electrical researchers and practitioner, the existing of NTGV in PQ area seems to be insignificant. Nonetheless, based on several case studies which have been reported in Malaysia, Canada, China and United States, it shows that study of NTGV also should be taken into the consideration as it also could contribute the similar detrimental effect to electrical system. Several studies also have reported that the current sensitive load could be prone to this excessive NTGV. The current grid system which shifting from bulky generation system dependent to distributed generation system operation also could lead to the new challenge on the PQ performance related to NTGV. Hence, it is very crucial for electrical society to have a clear overview on how NGTV effect the PQ performance and what is the opportunity of research activity on this related area. This keynote will address the research opportunity related neutral to ground voltage and how it could envision to the significant impact to society especially for electrical community. The keynote will lineout some NTGV issue in electrical system, the existing research work and the future research direction that would be provided a beneficial impact to humankind.
