Title: Inferences and Data-driven Interventions for employing Integrated Energy Planning
Abstract:
The energy sector in Pakistan has been going through a crisis for a long. Past choices and current trends have contributed to the unsustainable use of energy, especially electricity and gas. The session will provide an overview of each sector and then dissect the demand and supply dynamics. The crises however can be ameliorated through identifying opportunities that must be adopted by policymakers, industry stakeholders, and customers. Energy analysts at LUMS Energy Institute have collected relevant data and through rigorous analysis prepared a set of data-driven interventions that can lower costs in the short- and long-term. Their implementation will require a radical yet necessary change in the status quo of energy system planning and development and the way customers consume energy.
Biography:
Dr. Fiaz Chaudhry possesses a doctoral degree in electrical power engineering with over 37 years of experience in integrated power system planning, management consulting, devising engineering solutions, preparing functional specifications, and teaching in the utility as well as in academic environments. Since 2018, he is the Director, of LUMS Energy Institute and part of the Electrical Engineering faculty at LUMS. In addition, he is CEO of the Engineers Guild (Pvt.) Ltd., an Engineering Consulting firm established in 2017. Prior to this, he was Managing Director of, the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), Pakistan for one year. Since the last 24 years; he has held other senior management and practice lead positions internationally where he spearheaded and provided power generation and transmission engineering solutions to over 200 power sector companies around the world, including Canada, USA, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, New Caledonia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Tajikistan, Uganda, and Pakistan.
