Title: Robust Control Application on Power Converter for Future Mix Generation Microgrid

Abstract: 

This keynote presentation will explain about Robust Control applications for Smart Grids configuration. As known, in the future the Smart Grids will consist several Renewable Energy (RE) sources with different power ratings to become a Mix Generation Network for Microgrid or Grid system configuration. Currently, the Microgrid controller needs three loop control structure in order to achieve accurate power sharing among the RE sources and also constant frequency synchronization. The loops are, current control loop, voltage loop and power /droop control loop. These controllers required high stability condition between each other’s. Therefore, this talk will share the improved control loop which is known as H-infinity control where known as robust controller and be only the main control structure to achieve higher accurate power sharing and faster synchronization of the frequency during load changing where been developed by Advanced Control on Power Converter Team in UTHM. At the end of the presentation, a comparison between the proposed controller and conventional PI control will be shared. This presentation is hopefully to attract new robust control concept to be applied in Microgrid-Grids control with different rating of power that will be integrated to the existing electrical grids where at the end it can create an autonomous Microgrids.

Biography:

SHAMSUL AIZAM ZULKIFLI was born in Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia. He received his BS and MSc degrees from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2003 and 2006, respectively, and a PhD degree in Control System Engineering from Loughborough University, UK, in 2012. He is currently an associate professor with the Department of Electrical Power Engineering, Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). His research interest includes robust control system on power electronics application, parallel inverter application and smart grid topology for inverter-grid connection.
