Title: Energy Conservation Strategies and Peak Loads Management in Severe Climate Countries

Abstract:

The fearing from the fact that the fossil fuel, as a main source of energy for Gulf countries, is on its way to vanish in addition to its bad effects on environment have pushed the Gulf countries to take serious actions. Energy conservation can be achieved by the efficient use of energy as well as with the decrease of energy consumption and managing consumption of conventional energy sources. Peak load management is now becoming increasingly important for the Sub Continent as well as Gulf region in Arabic peninsula and countries with severe climate, as the growing energy demand is barely met by electric generating capacity. A smart transmission system is needed to cope with the maximum load demands during peak hours. Thermal storage and TermoDeck emerged as commercial methods for combating peak load demands. Energy conservation strategies are widely adopted in Gulf countries which spend huge efforts to cope with huge energy needs and to protect the environment. This study shows a good success in educating the people and spread the awareness of the necessity of giving attention for energy conservation. Alternative sources of energy i.e., clean energy, are also investigated and might be the future option of energy for Gulf countries.  This Invited Talk has examined the above mentioned aspects and alternative solutions have been proposed.
